Los inicios de la literatura Europea  surgen con la caída del Imperio Romano, cuando se produce la unión de varios reinos germanos dando lugar a la Europa suroccidental. Es hecho abarca mucho tiempo en la historia, por lo que el abanico comprende desde la más absoluta negatividad, expresada por algunos pensadores renacentistas, hasta la sublimación que hizo el Romanticismo.

Durante todas las épocas de la literatura Europea, destacan los siguientes autores:

Actor y dramaturgo francés, su verdadero nombre es Jean-Baptiste Poquelin, aunque adoptó el de Moliére cuando fundó L’Illustre Théâtre junto con la comediante Madeleine Béjart. A pesar de sus éxito, el más representativo es cuando consiguió adaptar Lacommedia Dell’arte al estilo francés, haciendo de la música y la danza un espectáculo cómico y criticando las hipocresías de la época mediante la ironía. Su obra más conocida y a la vez más criticada, que fue censurada en diversas ocasiones, es Don Juan.

Virginia Woolf 

Nacida en Gran Bretaña. Escribió tanto ensayos como novelas y cuentos infantiles, además también fue editora. Es conocida por su técnica del monólogo interior y estilo poético, los cuáles se consideran entre las contribuciones más importantes de la novela moderna. En algunas de sus obras podemos observar un alto sentido feminista, como en Una habitación propia, en la cual una mujer acomodada económicamente denuncia la situación del sexo femenino.

She was born in Britain. She wrote both essays and novels and children's stories, and she also was editor. She is known for his technique of interior monologue and poetic style, which are considered among the most important contributions of the modern novel. In some of her works we can observe a high sense feminist, and in A Room of One's Own in which a woman denounces the situation economically affluent female.

Franz Kafka

Escritor Checo que escribió su obra en la lengua alemana. Su escritura se caracteriza por su marcada vocación de la metafísica y el uso de la ironía que daba un sentido absurdo a su obra, a pesar de tener un estilo muy innovador, dramático y melodioso. Gran parte de las influencias en sus obras proviene de su interés hacia la religión judía. Se le considera uno de los escritores más significativos de la literatura moderna, ya que sus temas, la soledad y la frustración, coinciden con los de éste movimiento. En una de sus obras más conocidas, La metamorfosis mezcla su estilo irónico con la naturalidad y la fantasía dando a su obra un aire lleno de naturalidad.

Czech writer who wrote his work in the German language. Most of the influences on his work comes from his interest in the Jewish religion. He is considered one of the most significant writers of modern literature, as their themes, loneliness and frustrationcoincide with those of this movement. In one of his most famous works, The Metamorphosis he mix his ironic style with naturalness and fantasy giving his work an air filled of  naturalness.

Federico García Lorca

Este poeta y dramaturgo español se dedicó con pasión a la poesía, además de otras artes como la música y el teatro, de este último empleó rasgos líricos y simbólicos que recurrieron tanto a la canción popular como al teatro de títeres. Destacan los dramas y en sus obras lo visual tiene tanta importancia como lo lingüístico. Lorca no perteneció a ningún movimiento literario concreto, sino que podemos encontrar tanto características del modernismo como influencias románticas. Perteneció a la llamada Generación del 27.

Iris Murdoch

Nacida en Inglaterra fue narradora y ensayista. Perteneció a conocida época donde los escritores europeos tuvieron una gran repercusión en la literatura mundial y todos tenían en común la preocupación por las relaciones interpersonales y una crisis de valores con la sociedad burguesa, por lo que es comparada con otra gran escritora nombrada anteriormente, Virginia Woolf. Su estilo era complejo y con temas sórdidos, y con carácter humanista. Su obra A Severed Head muestra una narrativa mítica y alegórica que presenta la condición humana en sus personajes.

Wisława Szymborska

Ensayista y poeta Polaca, en sus novelas opta por una reflexión personal de forma íntima. Desde que tuvo su primera publicación  Busco la Palabra logró aparecer en el panorama de la literatura Europea como un cambio en el pensamiento filosófico. Gracias a esto obtuvo numerosos premios, entre ellos el Premio Nobel de Literatura. Es considerada una de laz voces más originales en la literatura de su país.

Thanks to this she won numerous awards including the Nobel Prize for Literature. Laz is considered one of most original voices in the literature of his country.
